About the area
Merihaka
As the name suggests, Merihaka is by the sea in Helsinki's city center. This concrete brutalist block of apartments was built in the 1970s and 1980s and sits on a yard deck with plenty of parking space below. The top of the yard deck is reserved for pedestrians, where the services of Merihaka can also be found.
Easy access to services from Merihaka
Residents of Merihaka and the surrounding areas are served by the Hakaniemi and the renovated Hakaniemi Market Hall, as well as Hakaniemi's theatres, gyms, restaurants, food and clothing stores. Merihaka also has a convenience store, a pharmacy, a restaurant for lunch, the Merihaan Pallohalli sports center, and two bars, Meripub and Sir Oliver. From Merihaka, you can quickly get to the sea for outdoor activities. Tervasaari, with its dog park, is located on the other side of Siltavuorensalmi, just over a kilometer from Merihaka. Mustikkamaa jogging trails and the stunning scenery of Kaivopuisto are about three kilometers away. Thanks to Merihaka's central location, cycling is a quick way to get to different parts of the metropolitan area.
