Water and drains

Water leaks can quickly cause serious damage to both the apartment and the entire building. For this reason, it is important to report all faults – even small ones – to the maintenance company without delay. The earlier a leak is detected, the easier it is to fix.

Even a small drip leak can waste a surprising amount of water. For example, a leaking tap can waste up to 100 litres of water per day, and a leaking toilet can use many times more. This is why even minor faults should be fixed without delay.

If you notice that any water fixture or drain is leaking or not working properly, submit a fault report immediately through the My Lumo service.

How to detect a leaking toilet

A leak from the toilet can be difficult to notice. You can easily test whether the toilet is leaking by placing a piece of paper on the back wall of the toilet bowl. If the paper becomes wet, the toilet is leaking and you should submit a fault report in the My Lumo service.

Traps and drains

All drain points have a water trap, which prevents unpleasant smells from entering the apartment. Clean the traps in wet areas regularly to prevent blockages.

If a drain has not been used for a long time, the trap may dry out and cause unpleasant smells. This can usually be fixed by pouring water into the drain.

If a drain is slow, you may try to clear it with a drain pump or a suitable cleaning product. However, dismantling pipes must always be left to a professional. It is important to report slow drains to the maintenance company early, so the blockage does not worsen and cause water damage.

Cleaning the floor drain

The floor drain should be cleaned regularly. Remove the cover grate, but do not remove the internal parts or base plug. Then remove any water, hair and dirt from the drain.

In some prefabricated bathrooms, the drain may be located on the wall. In this case, cleaning starts by removing the wall-mounted cover.

Use and installation of a washing machine

You may install a washing machine yourself if the apartment has a suitable connection and you follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use an extension lead for the electrical connection.

If the connection is missing or not suitable, contact the maintenance company. They can advise you, for example, on obtaining the correct adaptor.

During use, do not leave the machine running unattended. Always close the tap after use and clean the lint filter regularly according to the appliance instructions.

Use and installation of a dishwasher

Dishwasher installation must always be carried out by a professional. Incorrect installation increases the risk of leaks, and any resulting water damage can be extensive.

To reduce the risk of damage, it is recommended to place a protective drip tray under the dishwasher. This helps detect leaks at an early stage by directing water into a visible area.

As a Lumo resident, you can order dishwasher installation through the My Lumo service.

Remember in everyday life

You can effectively prevent water damage with simple everyday actions. Regularly check the hoses and connections of your washing machine and dishwasher, close taps after use, and make sure any disconnected hoses are properly sealed.

Please note that installing water fixtures or making any modifications always requires permission from the maintenance company.
