Door 19: It’s time to make some Christmas porridge

Christmas porridge can be enjoyed in many different ways – to each their own style!

Christmas porridge tastes the best when you make and enjoy it together with other people. Traditional Christmas porridge is made with porridge rice and whole milk, enjoyed warm and topped with cinnamon and sugar. Some cook their porridge on a hob, others slowly stew it in the oven.

It’s a tradition to hide a whole peeled almond in the Christmas porridge. Whoever gets the almond will be fortunate in the coming year: unmarried people will get married and married people will have another child.

In the past, Christmas porridge was made with barley or oats, and finding an almond meant that the finder had to complete a nice little task, such as reading a Christmas poem or cleaning up after the meal.

Now is a good time to update your traditions. What’s your Christmas porridge like? Is it vegan, overnight oats to be consumed cold or perhaps cooked with berries or mulled wine sauce?

Let’s make the wait for Christmas wonderful together!
