Car sharing offered to a growing number of Lumo tenants
Lumo car-share vehicles are an affordable, convenient and eco-friendly option for occasional driving and transport needs. Bookings can be made online or through an app. The cars are parked close to the users and the doors are unlocked via the user’s mobile phone.
Shared cars and vans for the tenants of Lumo homes are now available in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Oulu and Lahti. One shared van is also available in Hämeenlinna. The service is being gradually expanded to make it available to a growing number of Lumo tenants.
One shared car is estimated to replace an average of 8–25 privately owned cars.
The bookings and vehicles are managed by 24Rent. Lumo tenants can sign up as users free of charge. They only pay for the use of the car and they are eligible for a discount amounting to approximately one third of the normal price.
Using the service is very easy. Users can book a vehicle online whenever it suits them. They receive confirmation by text message along with e-mailed instructions for picking up, using and returning the vehicle. The cars are parked close to the users, often in the car park of their housing company, and they are returned to the same place after use.
Car sharing is a mobility service that complements public transport and represents concrete eco-friendly action. One shared car is estimated to replace an average of 8–25 privately owned cars. Furthermore, it is thought to reduce the need for parking places at apartment buildings by 30–40 per cent.
The first two-hour drive in a passenger car is free of charge. Sign up as a user and give it a try!
