A minimalist found his dream home on Hippoksentie street
Pekka Pukema reserved his brand new single-room apartment from the Lumo webstore as soon as the new homes on the Hippoksentie street in Turku became available. In addition to Pukema, 17,000 other apartment hunters have found their home through the webstore.
A bedroom that is separate, but not very large, and no windows facing south. These are the three things Pekka Pukema has been dreaming about for a long time. His dreams are about to come true soon when he gets to move to his new Lumo home on the Hippoksentie street in Turku.
A stylish kitchen
A combined microwave and oven, induction cooktop, stylish black sink and curved faucet. Pekka Pukema examines his future home, which is almost completed, and likes what he sees.
“This already felt perfect for me based on the floor plans on the website, but I’m still pleasantly surprised,” Pukema says as he admires the kitchen of his new apartment.
He is still on the fence about the placement of the small island: it’ll most likely end up in the kitchen corner or as a divider. The colours used in the interior design will be neutral and calm. Pukema already has a new sofa on his shopping list, and he’s taking measurements of the living room for it.
“The large walk-in closet is great. I’m a minimalist, so half of the space will be empty even after I store my things there. Maybe I’ll set up a small workspace in the closet.”
Good location
Pukema has been happy with his current Lumo home as well, but says that when he drove past Hippoksentie last autumn and saw the buildings under construction, the thought of moving immediately popped into his head.
“I wasn’t actively looking for a new home, but I guess it was in the back of my mind somehow and that’s why I paid closer attention to my surroundings than usual.”
The new Lumo building on Hippoksentie is located close to services as well as exercise facilities right next to the Kupittaa Sports Centre.
“I drive all across Turku as part of my work, so it’s important for me to live near the centre in order to keep my travels short.”
Renting made easy online
Pukema’s new home is 48 square metres whereas his former one was 31. Instead of one open space, Pukema wished his home had a bedroom that was separate from the living area. This will soon become a reality.
“The past few summers have also been so hot I decided that if I ever move I never want to have south-facing windows again.”
Pukema says choosing a floor plan he liked from the Lumo webstore’s selection of Hippoksentie apartments was easy.
“I followed the website to see when the apartments would become available and made my move in December the first day they could be rented.”
Pukema praises Lumo’s webstore for being straightforward and easy to use. There was enough information available to make a decision, and he got an instant e-mail confirmation of his reservation.
An easy moving process
Pukema has planned his move to be as easy as possible because spring is a busy season in the gardening field. He is planning on packing his belongings well in advance. Pukema utilises the benefits geared towards Lumo residents and has ordered a moving service for the same day he gets the keys for his new home.
“I can unpack my things at my own pace, but it’s good to have them delivered quickly and conveniently to my new home.
Pukema is not planning on taking everything from his old home with him. He has moved several times in his life and has noticed that the old apartment’s furniture doesn’t always fit the atmosphere of the new one.
“Stuff is not what makes a home for me and I try to have as little of it as possible. I am planning on getting a new sofa and giving the old one to a new home. Recycling lke that makes me feel good too.”
The first resident of the home
The kitchen is the heart of Pekka Pukema’s home. He loves to cook and says that everyday life would be cumbersome if his home was missing a dishwasher, for example. He is especially pleased with the induction cook top of the new apartment, as well as the generously-sized sink.
One of the things Pukema likes to cook are pizzas.
“I could grow flowers or herbs on my French balcony in the summer,” he muses.
Topping a pizza with fresh basil leaves from your own balcony sounds rather nice.
“I’m already looking forward to moving into my new apartment. For the first time in my life I’m the first resident of my new home,” Pukema grins.
A popular webstore
Renting a home through the Lumo webstore is becoming more and more common. Already 17,000 homes have been rented through the webstore since it opened in the autumn of 2015. Nearly all of the apartments in the new Lumo building on Hippoksentie in Turku were rented directly through the webstore.
Turku residents in general like to use the webstore: over 60% of the rental agreements for Lumo homes in Turku are made through the webstore. That’s no wonder considering you rent a home through the Lumo webstore at any time of the day just by paying the first month’s rent without having to fill any applications or put down a safety deposit.
The webstore also has a satisfaction guarantee. You can cancel the rental agreement free of charge as part of the apartment viewing in case you don’t like what you see.
