Enchanting homes: Aurora’s home above the clouds in Kalasatama is filled with light and creative energy
Living on the 22nd floor of a tower block in Kalasatama, fashion designer Aurora has transformed her flat into the perfect urban nest. For the young designer, the view stretching beyond the windows serves both as a place to pause and as a daily source of inspiration for building her own fashion brand.
When 23-year-old fashion designer Aurora began searching for a new home, she knew she wanted light and distance – particularly from street level. She found exactly that in a Lumo rental apartment on the 22nd floor of a tower in Kalasatama, where floor-to-ceiling windows and uninterrupted sea views not only captivated her but transformed her everyday life.
“I’ve always dreamed of living high up. Kalasatama had been on my radar for a long time,” Aurora admits.
Despite moving in on a rainy day last October, the apartment’s sense of space and unique views made an immediate impression.
“This flat feels as though it was made for me.”
Living high above the city brings the changing weather and the rhythms of nature closer. As someone who considers herself a morning person, Aurora treasures the early hours of the day most of all.
“The best moment of the day is seeing the sun rise as a red orb on the horizon. Mornings are when I have the most energy. I sit on the sofa with a matcha or a coffee, look out at the view, watch a bit of a series and do my make-up. In winter, you can see the entire sunrise and sunset from start to finish, the whole cycle from top to bottom, and it’s wonderful to watch,” she says.
Creativity begins with natural light
Aurora’s current apartment means a great deal to her, as it serves not only as a home but also as her creative workspace. Her own clothing brand is still in its early stages, but the flat works perfectly for sewing and photography alike. For a designer who creates visual content for social media, the abundance of unobstructed natural light is invaluable.
“In winter, the sunlight reaches all the way into the hallway. I’ve never experienced this much light before,” Aurora marvels. “I feel as though my creativity flourishes here and constantly pushes me forward.”
The studio flat’s layout has proven highly practical. The open, uncluttered floor plan, free from wasted space, gives her the freedom to rearrange both furniture and décor whenever inspiration strikes. Interesting architectural features, including a half-column in the living area and varying ceiling heights, add depth and character to the otherwise bright white interior.
Light also plays a major role in the apartment’s décor, which has been heavily inspired by Pinterest. Aurora says she finds almost all of her inspiration there.
“Scandinavian, Copenhagen-inspired, with a touch of femininity and softness,” she says, describing her interior style.
Soft, harmonious tones and a minimalist aesthetic combine to create a fresh and calming atmosphere.
Unique details and future dreams
Although the apartment has a modern overall look, it also features charming personal touches. Some of the furnishings have been sourced from flea markets to create a more distinctive character. Among Aurora’s most treasured possessions are paintings commissioned from a friend she has known since primary school, which have accompanied her from one home to the next.
One of the apartment’s hidden gems is its French balcony, which Aurora describes as something special.
“On warm days, I love sitting here with a cup of coffee. It’s the best,” she says, opening the balcony door and letting the fresh breeze of a spring afternoon drift inside.
Her next dream is to paint a feature wall. She is considering an exceptionally soft shade – perhaps a pale beige or a delicate blush pink. It would make the apartment feel even more personal, she reflects. One of the benefits of a Lumo home is the opportunity to paint the walls free of charge using paints provided by Lumo.
“If someone is looking for a rental home of their own, I’d advise them to go with the feeling they get from the place. You know immediately when you step into the right flat,” Aurora concludes.
For her, the importance of home is clear.
“Home is a huge part of who I am. This is exactly where I want to be, and it has exactly the kind of energy I wanted to surround myself with. The view definitely plays a major role in that.”
