Hollola

Hollola, a cosy municipality attracting families as well as other types of residents, is located in the Päijät-Häme region right next to the city of Lahti.

Hollola has been inhabited for at least 8,000 years. For centuries, Hollola has been the largest centre and marketplace in the vast Päijät-Häme region. History is present, for example, in the village with a church on the shore of Lake Vesijärvi and in Hollola’s medieval stone church. Hollola’s extensive history has moulded the municipality’s strong identity, and its residents are proud of their home town.
The people of Hollola are exceptionally proud of their basic services and vast outdoor recreation areas. The municipality’s good transport connections are one reason for the area’s popularity.

Good connections to all directions

Hollola’s location in southern Finland is excellent. Lahti is right next to Hollola, and Helsinki and the airport can be reached via the motorway in less than an hour. In addition, there are good main roads to the west, east, and north. The local bus connections are extensive, and from Lahti it is easy to travel by bus to all directions. There is also the possibility to travel smoothly by train.
When the ring rail line in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area was completed, it also brought the Lahti area closer to the services of the Helsinki area. With the ring rail line, the train journey from Lahti to Helsinki-Vantaa airport takes only 50 minutes. In addition, long-distance trains stop at Lahti, and St. Petersburg, for example, is only 2 hours 45 minutes away by train.

Living close to nature

Nature is always near in Hollola. Forests, ridges, swamps and waterways provide unique recreation opportunities. Tiirismaa nature reserve, with its hills that are the steepest in all of Southern Finland, provides the whole family with versatile opportunities for outdoor activities and hiking. Vesijärvi and Pääjärvi lakes lend the region a touch of the Finnish Lakeland district’s atmosphere. Lake Vesijärvi can be considered as a gateway to the Finnish Lakeland, as it is connected all the way to Lake Päijänne. The municipality of Hollola maintains its recreation areas well, and all residents of Hollola can enjoy nature near to their homes.

Culture in Hollola

Hollola has lively cultural activities for the municipality’s residents to participate in. Activities are provided to all age groups from children to pensioners, with active organisations and entrepreneurs as organisers. Annual music events, medieval events and dozens of other happenings provide the people of Hollola a nice change in their everyday life. The most important example of cultural architectural expertise in the Lahti area is Sibelius Hall, in addition to which the region hosts many specialty museums such as the Ski Museum and Radio and TV Museum.

An active sports municipality

Messilä is a popular destination for downhill skiing and golf. Hollola offers activities in all seasons. In addition, the ski jumping hills and active winter sports scene in Lahti are just around the corner.
