Tuusula is a family-friendly municipality 25 kilometres from Helsinki. It has gradually grown around lake Tuusula and received its current form as a result of the railway and municipal mergers. Jokela and Kellokoski are old industrial centres, the roots of which go back to the 19th century. There used to be several factories in the area. At the moment, Tuusula is a versatile and well-off municipality that offers good housing for families, couples and single dwellers.

Good transportation connections

Many residents of Tuusula work in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, which is possible thanks to the excellent connections. Tuusula is located at the other end of the Tuusulanväylä motorway, at a 15-minute drive from Helsinki Airport and 30-minute drive from central Helsinki. The same motorway also takes you to the neighbouring towns of Järvenpää, Kerava and Hyvinkää. Jokela Railway Station is located in Tuusula, offering fast connections by train via the main railway line. There are also frequent bus services to and from Tuusula.

Town of artists

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Tuusula was home to the most important community of artists in Finland. Artists such as Aleksis Kivi, Jean Sibelius and Eero Järnefelt were part of it. The ideas and works by these great artists had a major influence on Finnish culture. The community was originally formed along Tuusulan Rantatie, which is still a scenic byroad in Tuusula. The heritage of the artists’ community is still part of Tuusula’s identity, and it is reflected in the many artists’ residences across the town. Probably the most famous of these is Halosenniemi, the home museum of painter Pekka Halonen. Many of the artists’ homes are open to the public. Tuusula hosts a number of cultural and art events for the whole family, including the Night of the Arts on Rantatie, Tuusula.

Hyökkälä - comfortable residential area near the centre

The comfortable residential area of Hyökkälä is located right next to Hyrylä. All the services in Hyrylä are located nearby, and the district has excellent outdoor trails. Hyökkälä is slightly further away from the centre but still close to all its services.

Sula - tranquil housing near nature

Sula is a tranquil neighbourhood near the services of Hyrylä and Riihikallio. The residential area was originally built around the Amer tobacco factory, and it is excellent for those who want to live in a tranquil environment, near idyllic and rustic fields. Sula has its own, day-care centres, schools and shops. All the specialty shops in Tuusula are also located in Sula.
