Nurmijärvi is a safe and lively rural municipality surrounded by nature near the Helsinki area in the Uusimaa region.

The archeological findings in Nurmijärvi indicate that the area has been inhabited already in prehistoric times. The beautiful wooden church located in Nurmijärvi’s Kirkonkylä area dates from the end of the 18th century. Nurmijärvi is named after a lake that was located in the middle of the municipality. The most famous Nurmijärvi resident is undoubtedly Aleksis Kivi, in honour of whom an annual event is held in Nurmijärvi. The birthplace of Aleksis Kivi is now a museum.
