Hyvinkää is a lively, small town on the main railway line in the northern part of Uusimaa. The city has around 47 000 inhabitants. Hyvinkää offers a wide range of housing options, both in rural-like settlements and in the urban landscape of the city centre. Hyvinkää's centre offers a comprehensive range of services, largely concentrated in the Willa shopping centre. The name of the shopping centre is rooted in the old wool (in Finnish villa) factory in the centre of Hyvinkää, after which the area is also named Tehdas (in English factory). An old railway town

Hyvinkää was originally built along the railway line that connected Helsinki with Hämeenlinna. The primary construction site for the railway was founded on uninhabited forest land in 1857. Hyvinkää church is the landmark of the town. Made from pine and concrete, the triangular church was designed by Aarno Ruusuvuori in 1961. The Railway Museum is also a popular attraction among locals and visitors alike. The town centre has still has some old wooden houses that give it a nice and friendly feel. All in all, the centre of Hyvinkää is compact and functional, housing a range of events for the residents. Hyvinkää has also received national recognition for its functional centre: in 2015, it was selected as the best urban centre in Finland.
