Full renovation of the Lumo building

If your building is going to be fully renovated, there is no need to worry. Even though you will need to move out temporarily, you will be able to find a new Lumo home. If you wish, you may also return to your renovated building once the work is completed.

Lumo homes are renovated to keep living comfortable and easy. Most renovations are small and preventive, but sometimes full renovation is the best option. In these cases, the building is emptied and thoroughly renovated.

Residents are supported throughout the process. You will be informed well in advance, and everyone is helped to find another Lumo home, either temporarily or permanently.

The decision to carry out a full renovation is usually made about 7–9 months before the work begins. Residents are informed at least six months before the renovation, often earlier. Rental agreements are terminated six months before the start of the renovation.

Around 3–6 months before the renovation begins, an information meeting is arranged. At this meeting, you will receive more details about the process, how it will progress, where to look for a temporary or permanent home, and other practical matters. At this stage, residents are also asked if they are interested in returning after the renovation, and information about possible changes in rent is provided.

You can look for a new home through the Lumo online store or by submitting a home exchange application. Applicants looking to move within Lumo are always considered when homes become available.

Full renovation usually takes about one year. Once all apartments are empty and rental agreements have ended, the contractor typically starts the work immediately.

Homes in the renovated building are usually offered for rent about four months before the work is completed. First, previous residents who have expressed interest in returning are contacted. After that, the remaining homes are offered to other applicants.

The moving date is confirmed about six weeks in advance for residents who have signed a new rental agreement. Please note that when moving from one Lumo home to another, you do not need to pay overlapping rent. Be sure to check the benefits available for internal movers.
