Käpylä

The Käpylä district is mainly known for its atmospheric wooden houses. Located about five kilometres from the centre of Helsinki, Käpylä is a green and peaceful residential area.

Käpylä combines services, good transportation connections, and nature

Käpylä has good amenities: several grocery stores, schools, a library, and a pharmacy. There are several shops and restaurants along Mäkelänkatu and Koskelantie. The area also has many parks and, for example, the Ilves Theatre. A more comprehensive range of services can be found at the Triple Shopping Centre in Pasila, about three kilometres away.

Käpylä Sports Park caters to a wide range of sports enthusiasts, with football pitches, the Helsinki Velodrome, and an artificial ice rink that gets frozen in winter. Nearby, in the Kumpula district, is Helsinki's second outdoor swimming pool. Open during the summer season, it is ideal for all age groups. The Kumpula community garden is also located on the other side of Koskelantie.

Käpylä has excellent transport connections. In particular, buses running along Mäkelänkatu provide convenient transport connections for residents. K and I trains stop at Käpylä train station, allowing easy access in different directions. In addition, tram line 1 run from Käpylä through the centre of Helsinki to Eira.

Sense the history in Käpylä

On both sides of Pohjolankatu is the well-known Puu-Käpylä area, where wooden houses were built in the 1920s. The sympathetic English-style wooden house district is worth visiting as you stroll around the area. Käpylä's apartment blocks, Olympiakylä and Kisakylä, began to be built in the 1930s for the Helsinki Olympics held in 1952.
