  1. Make use of your home building’s waste sorting opportunities. When you sort biowaste, glass, metal, paper, cardboard, plastic and mixed waste into their own containers, you act for the climate and support the circular economy. This will also keep your building’s waste collection point tidier.
  2. Sort smartly. Everything compostable belongs in the biowaste bin, such as food scraps, used coffee grounds and their filters as well as paper towels and napkins. In addition to tins, the metal recycling bin is the correct place for aluminium convenience food packaging, aluminium lids of butter packaging and yogurt cups and even the aluminium cups of tealights. Glass of all colours can be placed in the glass recycling container, and you don’t have to remove the labels. The plastic recycling is suitable for all food and hygiene packaging. Large objects made of hard plastic, such as buckets or toys, don’t belong in the plastic recycling container. Paper and cardboard are sorted separately, and no tapes or staples have to be removed. You can also leave the little plastic windows on envelopes in place.
  3. Rinse the containers. All containers, bottles and cups going to metal, glass, plastic and cardboard recycling should be rinsed before taking them to the housing company’s recycling points. You don’t have to wash them as carefully as your dishes, just enough to make sure the recycled products don’t emit any bad smells.
  4. Take plastic caps off bottles. The caps and bottles of plastic bottles may be of different plastic qualities as well as the lids and bases of containers. Different varieties of plastics should be separated from each other so that they can be sorted accordingly in a later stage. This is why you shouldn’t fill a ketchup bottle, for instance, with plastic bags because it makes it difficult for the machines to sort the different varieties correctly.
  5. Make the container as small as possible. When collecting cardboard packaging, squash milk and juice cartons, egg trays, packets of cereal and other packaging that takes up space and make them as small as you can. This makes collecting cardboard at home easier and doesn’t fill up your building’s shared cardboard waste container too fast.
